Laser Hair Removal FAQs: Everything you need to know
We answer some of the most common questions about laser hair removal.
Like any other advanced beauty treatment, when it comes to laser hair removal, it's important to do your research.
At Skinsmiths, we aim to make every treatment as simple and accessible as we can – so if you're thinking about getting permanent hair removal, we're here for you.
From how many sessions you need, to how much laser hair removal costs, we've answered some of the most common questions below.
HOW DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK?
Laser hair removal works by passing a light beam through the unwanted hair area which is then absorbed by the pigment (colour) within the hair shaft and hair follicle. This generates heat, which loosens the hair and disables the hair forming cells.
DOES IT HURT?
Most people describe the treatment as uncomfortable rather than painful. The level of discomfort varies between individuals and the different areas being treated. Some people feel nothing, some feel a heat sensation, and some have likened the sensation to mild stinging or the flicking of a rubber band. Generally the coarser or thicker the hair, the greater the sensation. There is usually some form of skin response post treatment, normally a mild redness.
At Skinsmiths, all of our clinic staff are highly professional and experienced and have been trained extensively, so they can perform the treatment quickly and efficiently – it’ll be over in no time!
ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY SESSIONS DO YOU NEED BEFORE THE HAIR DOESN'T GROW BACK AT ALL?
For best results, we recommend having a course of treatments (usually between 6-8) on our laser hair removal plan to achieve permanent results. Our laser hair removal programme, Freedom®, gives you a treatment schedule and comes with an easy payment plan option. Plus, it also includes our exclusive guarantee to give you peace of mind about your results.
WHERE CAN YOU HAVE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
We treat the following areas with laser hair removal:
- Bikini line/Brazilian
HOW LONG DO YOU WAIT BETWEEN SESSIONS?
These treatments are typically performed around 6 weeks apart to allow us to target as many hairs as possible throughout the hair growth cycle. It's also important not to wax or epilate in between treatments - but shaving is fine!
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Results vary from person to person, and hormonal changes can affect the hair growth as well, but we expect long-term results. We also offer an exclusive guarantee to help you achieve long lasting results - we can talk to you about this during a consultation.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST/HOW MUCH FOR TWO AREAS?
This really varies depending on the area you are having treated. At Skinsmiths, our Freedom membership plan starts from around £48 per month depending on the area, but you can get a more accurate quote at your consultation.
ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY SESSIONS DO YOU NEED FOR UNDERARMS OR FOR THE BIKINI AREA?
For best results, we recommend having 8 treatments on our laser hair removal plan.
I HAVE VERY FINE, SUPER BLONDE HAIRS – WILL LASER WORK FOR ME?
We tend to see best results with darker hairs (e.g. brown and black). We cannot treat red, blonde or grey hairs.
IS LASER SUITABLE WITH PCOS?
If you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and are interested in treating it with laser hair removal, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the treatment and possible results before getting started.
Many clients with PCOS achieve excellent results from laser hair removal treatment, and it can significantly improve their self-confidence. Although the results for many clients can be successful, and often life changing, they will need to continue to have the treatments on a regular basis to maintain a reduction in hair growth.
As an existing medical condition like PCOS affects the body’s hair growth, it’s impossible to guarantee a result, as increased hair growth may continue in spite of regular laser hair removal treatments.
Before starting on a laser hair removal programme at Skinsmiths, you’ll have a complimentary consultation to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for the treatment.
IS LASER SUITABLE WHEN BREASTFEEDING?
No, you can't have this treatment while breastfeeding.
I AM PHOTO SENSITIVE. IS LASER STILL A GOOD/SAFE OPTION?
Any complex medical situations require individual care and assessment by our team in clinic to determine whether the treatment would be suitable. We recommend coming in for a free consultation to learn more about the treatment and learn more about what your options are.
