Symptoms that prove your treatments are working

No pain no gain

We’ve all heard the saying, "beauty is pain", and while we make it a priority to ensure our treatments are as comfortable as possible for you, afterwards you may notice the effects. But there's no need to worry, these symptoms are quite normal and are a sign that your treatments are working and your skin rejuvenating.

Redness: After some treatments, your skin may appear pink or red. This is particularly common after a Detox Treatment due to the exfoliation, where dead skin cells are removed to reveal the new, healthy looking skin underneath. This redness temporary and skin should appear its normal colour within 24 hours.

Brown spots, or a ‘Miloing effect’: After an IPL treatment, often the treated brown spots or pigmentation may appear darken over the next few hours, and they may also start to peel and flake. This is what we call the "Miloing effect" which is a common sign of the healing process. If you notice this happening to your skin, you can still continue with your normal skincare and makeup regime as usual as the skin is not broken or at risk of infection.

Itchiness: It is common for skin to feel itchy or slightly sting after treatments. This is a temporary side effect which should clear up within 48 hours. To soothe any stinging or itchiness, we recommend the Skinsmiths Skin Healing Gel, perfect for post treatment care.

Swelling: This may occur after more High Intensity Treatments such as Microneedling and particularly with our most advance treatment; Fractional CO2 Laser.  These treatments are use controlled trauma to evoke the body’s healing process to rejuvenate itself.  With this comes inflammation or swelling – this is temporary and usually resolves within 1-7 days.

Dryness/Flaking: Skin treatments will often result in your skin speeding up the rate of cell turnover. This means that you may have some dry/flaky skin for up to 2 weeks post treatment.  Once this has subsided you will reveal fresher, brighter, and healthier looking skin.
