What causes facial scarring?

As our body's largest organ, skin plays an important defensive role. After a wound or injury occurs, skin forms new collagen tissues at the site as part of the natural repair process, which can appear visibly different to the rest of the surrounding skin.

Scarring can often be a result of moderate to severe acne, especially if the blemishes have become inflamed with cysts or pustules. Different types of acne scars can occur, so any treatments are best addressed on a case by case basis.

TREATMENTS TO REDUCE SCARRING

In the case of acne scars, the best way to reduce the likelihood of a scar forming is to avoid picking at or popping pimples. This can cause the inflammation to spread and will further irritate skin.

If you already have scarring, there are a number of targeted treatments that can help reduce their appearance and improve the texture of your skin.
